Stop suspicious contact
Send no more codes, passwords or money. Find contact details yourself on the organisation’s official site. A logo or signature does not prove who sent a message.
If money is involved
Contact the bank or payment service promptly through official channels. Ask about protection and dispute options. Recovery depends on the circumstances and cannot be promised.
Keep the context
Preserve original emails, full conversations, addresses, receipts and transaction references. Screenshots may omit information in the original file. Blocking a contact is not a reason to delete useful evidence.
An imagined example
A fake courier asks for a small delivery fee. The link collects card details. The small payment may be only the start of the fraud.
Protect others too
Discuss proper reporting with authorities and a professional. Avoid posting accusations or personal details on social media: identities may have been stolen. Platform support does not necessarily replace reporting to the competent authority.
